A 2012 Oscar Winner - The movie takes place in present-day Iran, a modern nation that attempts to live under Islamic law. It demonstrates that when the law is inflexible, the spirit of the law may be frustrated. Such is the case when an Iranian husband and wife separate over his decision to stay and care for his aging father instead of leaving the country with his family for the sake of their young daughter’s education. Their case ends up in court. The husband’s fateful choice to hire a caretaker for his father breeds unexpected consequences.
