Today, Chai Day  falls within the holiday of Sukkot, the Festival of Booths.  (Sukkot began this past Sunday evening and will end this coming Sunday -- reminder: Sunday Forum at 11.)  One Sukkot custom is to sleep outside in the sukkah.  It's important that the sukkah be partially open to the sky.
