Our first Lag B'Omer celebration: an outdoor get together to observe the lightening of seasonal and personal moods.
What on earth is Lag B'Omer? I'm glad you asked. The time between Passover and Shavuot (the “Omer”) is traditionally considered a time of semi-mourning. Lag B'Omer is the 33rd day of “counting the omer”, and is a one-day break, when Jews are allowed to celebrate. It also marks some historical events, including the end of a plague that killed many students of Rabbi Akiva (c. 50-135 C.E.). Maybe it's doing it again this year?
So! It's spring, it's May Day, the threat of the pandemic is lifting, let's give ourselves a break from being cooped up and get together to celebrate flowers, warmth, and each other. Please join us for the first in-person gathering in a very long time at The Irvington home (NE Portland) of Kol Shalom members Julie and Scott McGee (for address, contact Sharon at oldslaw2@gmail.com).
No pre-registration required, but reservations are encouraged.
(Since times are still uncertain, we will strictly adhere to CDC/local requirements to keep everyone safe and comfortable in this Covid 19 time. Masks will be required.
