As always, we ‘ll take songs as our starting point. We'll see and hear two Yiddish songs on YouTube, Di Mashke, Whiskey, a comic song about the role of whiskey in European Jewish life, and Ikh Bin A "Border" Bay Mayn Vayb, I Am A Boarder At My Wife's Place, a comic song about immigrant life in the US. Then we'll talk about the songs, read selected vocabulary and phrases in transliteration and translation, and consider the songs' history and cultural context. On a different note, to continue our exploration of modern Yiddish, we'll take a look at words for talking about Harry Potter's birthday. And if we have time, perhaps we'll write some Yiddish using the Lexilogos Yiddish Keyboard (https://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/yiddish.htm).
Kumt un hot Yiddisheh hanoyeh mit undz (come and have Yiddish fun with us).
