Spend part of your weekend in a Yiddish milieu.
The three songs we'll listen to on YouTube and talk about will be: Yidl Mitn Fidl, Little Jew with a Fiddle, a well known Yiddish theater song about the Klezmer life by Itsik Manger; Rabeynu Tam, Rabbi Tam, a comic song of unrequited love, also by Itsik Manger; and Hulyet, Hulyet, Kinderlekh, Frolic, Frolic, Little Children, a song of nostalgia for youth by Mordechai Gebirtig (links below). Then we'll read the poem I Once Was a Youth by Anna Margolin, about sources of inspiration, my interpretation, in Yiddish, translation and transliteration (see attachments). We'll also talk about Yiddish computer science words.
