Humanistic Jews Study the Bible/Tanakh (Online)

  • Kol Shalom, Community for Humanistic Judaism 2420 Northeast Sandy Boulevard Portland, OR, 97232 United States (map)

While Humanistic Jews do not believe the Bible was divinely revealed or has any supernatural authority, it is a critically important part of the history of the Jewish people. In terms of literacy and supporting our position as Humanistic Jews, it is important for us to be literate with this text so we can speak with a solid background when we support our positions as Humanistic Jews.. The original text , whether divinely revealed or not gives a fascinating insight into our forbears.

This online discussion group meets once a month on a Saturday to give us an opportunity to read, learn and discuss the Bible without any religious limitations and from a Humanistic standpoint.

We will read and discuss the text as written with commentary in the Jewish Study Bible. Scans of excerpts will be sent to participants.
