The Salon will be at the new Eastside Jewish Commons which is now a major gathering place for the Portland Jewish Community. We, along with twenty-two other Portland Jewish organizations including nine other congregations are partners of the Commons
The results of our member survey indicated a strong preference for having this new event in person so long as we require masks and vaccination .
The Salon is a mixture of music, socializing, arts and philosophy. Not everyone knows that Randy Splitter, our president, is also a published author whose latest novel, The Third Man is a fascinating insight into the Holocaust from the standpoint of everyday people in Austria. Randy’s parents escaped from Austria and his cousins were part of the Kindertransport. Randy will do a reading from his book. We’ll also have a presentation by Davida Jordan and Walt Hellman about “Why Humanistic Judaism?” along with a discussion period. Eric Stern will provide music and there will be ample time for enjoying socializing and the provided refreshments. The event is open to the other Commons partners and is free. Let’s get together for what should be a very enjoyable and worthwhile event
With the Salon we hope to not only have a great evening for our members, but also provide an enjoyable way for those interested in Humanistic Judaism to find out more about it.
The event is free, however RSVP is required. Please email info@kolshalom.org to confirm your attendance!
